The Best Real Estate Decisions Aren’t Measured by One Transaction

When people talk about success in real estate, the conversation often revolves around a single sale. Did the home sell quickly? Was the offer strong? Did the buyer secure the property they wanted?

Those milestones are certainly worth celebrating, but they only tell part of the story.

The real measure of a successful real estate strategy is what happens over time. As your life changes, your housing needs evolve, and the market shifts, each decision should build on the last. That’s why some of the relationships we’re most grateful for are the ones that span years rather than months.

Recently, one of our longtime clients shared this review after completing their third transaction with our team:

“We have loved working with this team throughout the years. They are prompt, personable, and pay attention to every detail. They go to bat for you and do their due diligence to make your experience of buying and selling super smooth. We have sold one home with them and have bought two homes over the years. It’s always been 10/10 service! We’d highly recommend them to anyone!”

Reading those words was incredibly meaningful, not only because of the kind recommendation, but because they reflect something we’ve always believed: real estate is rarely a one-time event. It’s a series of important decisions that unfold over many years.

This family has trusted us through three separate transactions, all within Vancouver. Along the way, we’ve had the opportunity to watch their housing needs change, help them evaluate new opportunities, and provide guidance as each move brought them closer to their long-term goals.

One milestone in particular stands out.

They purchased their home in March 2018 for $1,029,000. When the time came to sell in August 2025, the property sold for $1,240,000.

That’s an increase of approximately 20.5% over their original purchase price before accounting for selling costs, purchase costs, renovations, carrying expenses, or broader market factors. While past performance never guarantees future results, it’s a meaningful reminder of what can happen when homeowners make thoughtful decisions and give their investment time to grow.

One of the challenges with following real estate headlines is that they often focus on what’s happening this month or this quarter. Interest rates, inventory levels, and market activity are all important, but they represent only a small chapter in what is often a much longer ownership journey.

For many homeowners, wealth isn’t created by perfectly timing the market. It’s built by purchasing the right property, maintaining it well, making strategic decisions when life changes, and allowing time to do its work.

That’s why we spend so much time talking with clients about their long-term plans rather than simply their immediate transaction. Where do you see yourself in five years? Could this home accommodate a growing family? Does the neighbourhood support your lifestyle today and still offer flexibility if your needs change tomorrow? Those conversations help shape decisions that extend well beyond possession day.

Another part of this review that resonated with us was the phrase, “throughout the years.”

Trust isn’t built in a single negotiation. It’s built through consistent communication, careful preparation, honest advice, and being available when questions arise, whether you’re actively buying and selling or simply wondering what your next step might look like.

Many of our clients stay in touch for years between transactions. We discuss market trends, changing family needs, renovation ideas, or whether moving still makes sense. Sometimes those conversations lead to another purchase or sale. Sometimes they simply provide peace of mind. Both are equally valuable.

We’re incredibly grateful this family chose to work with us through three important milestones, and even more grateful that they took the time to share their experience.

Helping clients buy and sell homes is what we do. Helping them build confidence in the decisions they make over the course of many years is what continues to make this work so rewarding.

Thank you for trusting WestCoast Living to be part of your real estate journey. We look forward to seeing where the next chapter takes you.
